UNDERSTANDING THE MOVING ESTIMATE TYPES

04-Feb-2013
Most of the problems occur when the movers are unaware of the types of budget estimates they are offered by the moving company, or they ignore the terms and conditions of those estimates and do not even ask about the FAQs. The simplicity of the budget estimates offered by a moving company enables the movers to understand their budget adjustments beforehand. Most of the moving companies offer three types of moving estimates. This brief explanation of the budget and moving estimates will save you from scams or other possible legal issues while moving.

1. BINDING ESTIMATE

As evident from the name, a binding estimate is based on a fixed price which is settled before signing the document with the moving company. A few moving companies do not even bargain before signing the document. All they offer is an estimate tarrif, from which you select the most suitable package with respect to the items you have to move and the time of move. Binding estimate cannot be compensated later on. Once you have signed the document of binding estimate, you become bound to pay the fixed price, no matter how more or less objects you have.
For such an estimate, it is important to make a list of the objects to be moved. This will help you get an idea about your budget and estimate, so that no confusion remains in your mind while signing the document.

2. NON-BINDING ESTIMATE

Non-binding estimate is an ideal form of moving estimate in which, the moving company visits your place and checks the movable objects. It then provides you a 'general' estimate which is not a fixed amount but just an idea of the amount, around which you will be paying on the day of the move. Non-binding estimate is mostly given on the basis of the weight of items. The rate can be changed if you are not punctual on the day of move, or delay the move at the very moment. The flexibility of the prices can be settled on the day of move by bargaining etc.
The document contains no fixed price in the estimate part. It just contains a sign of non-binding estimate and a flexible figure of estimate. If you have dealt a non-binding estimate with the moving company, however you find a fixed price on the signing document, then you must point it out to the moving company. It's your legal and civil right.

3. LIMITED ESTIMATE

A limited estimate is the one in which you quote the maximum of your items and decide a certain price with the moving company. On the day of move, you will have to pay that estimated amount. However, if the weight of the items is very less than the estimated one, then the prices can be negotiated according to the weight. The difference between non-binding estimate and a limited estimate is that in non-binding, the company provides you an estimate which is normally the most accurate one. However, in limited estimate, you have to assess the weight of objects on your own.
